To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I have a box set of X3 Reunion on my desk. I installed it on a old system some 7 year ago which was under spec to play. And with the steep learning curve I didn't really get into that much.
The question is should I bother to re-install it and start playing it again? Or wait for the X Rebirth?
PS - I since upgrade my machine twice since I last play it. I'm sure what I got now can easily handle the graphics.
Soooo...
It sounds like you just want some reassurance that it is a good game, but you really want to play it.
Just reinstall it & play! Don't torture yourself with the 'Will I/Won't I?"
Worst case scenario: you still don't get into it, uninstall again and THEN end up waiting for Rebirth.
Nah I got X3 Albion sat on the hard drive, never got around to playing it.
Think I will just wait for Re-Birth.
<nods> I agree with Pinback 🙂
Been playing X3 albion a lot since X rebirth trailer was posted on youtube. With the good combination of scripts, it can turn into a hell of a fun game. A few of them which I used:
1. NPC bailout addon + salvage command software.
2. Xenon migrations -> xenons will move from their xenon sectors can try to take neighbouring systems, once taken move to the next.
3. Khaak the revenge 2 -> incredibly hard khaak which ravage random sectors, then once done move to the next.
4. Automated exploration -> allows you to let a ship explore for you, by making them automatically map a sector or fly through a gate. Combined with the move to coordinates or move to position commands, this can make a very nice exploration ship.
Those really add some nice stuff.

Yes Pinback, but will you get around to playing Re-birth? I am still want to complete the previous games first before getting it. I am almost there with the first game (yes still at it :girlcrazy: ). Next up is X-Tension. I think it was said someplace (newsletter?) that there will be a boxed Collector's Edition, but it still requires online activation on Steam :girlsigh:
Actually I ended X-BTF quite some time ago, also played X-Tension for some time. Same for X2. Now, I bought, but never managed to actually play the collectors edition of X3 - and tbqh I think I also bought the addons.
Got bored I guess.

A lot will will depends on how the the first couple of hours go in X-Rebirth if it turns out to be usual back/forth repeat and rinse then I may not get far.
Since my new system doesn't have a DVD drive. I had to make a image file of X3 Reunion from my older system. I though this is not going to work, but to my surprise was able to mount the image under Windows 8 no problem. Installed it with no issues, run the Ver 1.0 to Ver 2.5 patch sweet! Again my sceptical brain said the CD protection is not going to like the mounted image. Click on the X3 icon ... pow!! ran like a charm and quick too!!
Now to overcome the cumbersome interface and the steep learning curve. Mine you I dug up out of my library of old software and documents a PDF beginners guide to assist me. :spiteful:
I should have completed this game. It certainly has a lot of depth to it trading and manufacturing.
