To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Looks like Egosoft will be releasing some free DLC at Christmas for X Rebirth, but it only free if you pre order it before the 1 of November http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=371656
Together with the general availability of Update 2.50 for X Rebirth, which will be released soon, bringing a new menu system, external camera, new small shipyards and many other improvements, we are happy to announce today the DLC - X Rebirth: The Teladi Outpost - coming in December 2014:
Showing the X-Series in a whole new light. "X Rebirth: The Teladi Outpost" contains version 3.0 of X Rebirth and the brand new expansion The Teladi Outpost. This expansion offers the player exciting new content, such as an independent storyline and a whole new star system containing two unique sectors. Here the player can find a massive new space station belonging to the Teladi, harbouring not only numerous factories but also a wealth of new Teladi ships.
These new areas also contain hazardous regions and new groups of smugglers and pirates that offer the player countless opportunities, as well as new weapons and equipment for the Albion Skunk.
Until 1st November, preordering this DLC will be free for all owners of X Rebirth.
Maybe if the price drops I will pick up X:R, still reading a lot of negative feedback on Steam about the game still. If this expansion is going to make it X:R 3.0 I wonder if this will be re-branded and just sold with X:R after it comes out?
I suspect it's mainly due to a likely holiday sale of x rebirth coming up in november or december 😉
Regardless, most CTD bugs and such are fixed, but lots of content still missing. The 2.50 patch is a good step ahead, but lots of work still has to be done.
Still, must give egosoft credit where its due that they keep fixing the game. Its also why Kerberos (sots2) isn't on my blacklist of devs/publishers. Can't say that of Calypso, Iceberg and EA 😛 EA for obvious reasons, calypso for welping tropico 5 and Legends of Pegasus (that latter one was welped due to publisher fuckup. The game was well playable with some minor modifications in config files, but the publisher put the wrong version on steam).
Iceberg mainly because they screwed customers over with kickstarted games (looking at you Stardrive!) which promised lots, but in the end often didn't live up to expectations. Also, I bought several games on purpose on desura and similar platforms so I could just play the game whenever i wanted it without having steam messing shit up (or having to pirate it), and then iceberg rolls in and gives the games a steam only requirement.
No, you can say all you want about X rebirth (and yes, the release was shitty), but they at least TRY to fix the shit, in contrary to quite some other publishers and devs.
Egosoft don't have a lot choice but to fix the game as they are in effect a one trick pony and although as it says when you start XR they are celebrating 25 years, they basically have just remade the same game since the mid 1990's
Giving that they have been making theses game it's amazing that they left out some of the basic features you would expect to find in the game.
Also not much choice since otherwise its end of story for egosoft 😉
In addition to all the other problems with the game, the primary thing that has stopped me from playing has been the disastrous performance. I couldn't get more than 30fps on any setting, which might have been tolerable if it were steady, but it would often dip to 5fps. I've been checking to see if it's fixed every now and then, and still isn't.
I'm about to get a completely new system, essentially the best system I can buy right now with only 1 GPU (GTX980). Also have the faster of the 6-core Haswell-E's. Suffice it to say, if it doesn't get 60fps then Egosoft has really screwed things up.
You never know, I loved X3 Reunion, but it was a calamity on releas, maybe they'll actually make something good out of Rebirth? Please?
So far it has been the single biggest disappointment in gaming I can remember, as initially I was super excited about it.
Well, I think that performance boost you are waiting for will at least wait till after patch 2.50. You can see though that they've started to shift from fixing CTD issues n such to fixing performance and gameplay stuff.
Had a look over the screenshots from this new update. That station does look sort of "Elitey" :girlsigh:
I was thinking the same thing, maybe Egosoft should change the games name to X Dangerous Rebirth. :haha:
"X Dangerous Rebirth" 😀 Yep that would fit the name better 😀
^ some gameplay on my VERY LOW END (officially a htpc build) rig. Pulling (including frapsing and background running skype, steam, 15 chrome tabs) 15 FPS on averache with sometimes a lockup for a second when it loads a new zone.
Serious performance issues? I say NOPE. Areas they should still work on? Definately.
Remember, this rig is barely able to pull UT3 with decent FPs on LOW settings. Not to mention a game like this 😛
Well, I can't attest to anyone else's hardware, but on a Core i7 920 and GTX570 I was getting barely 30fps, with very frequent drops to 5fps. It didn't seem to depend on graphics settings at all.
The same system gives me a solid 60fps in UT3 on max settings.
So X Rebirth's performance: abysmal, number one issue from day one and they never fixed it. People gave similar reports on a pretty wide variety of systems.
Well, still I say double check your settings lol. Me on a crappy rig virtually outperform your rig? That either indicates some issues with your rig or BS coding of egosoft, which i can hardly imagine on this part.
Must say though my rig is awfully close to what the PS4 and Xbox1 use for hardware lol.
Maybe its card type, Robske do you have a AMD/ATI or Nvidia gfx card?
I have seen drivers kill a game, so wondering if beta drivers or a older version driver will help ExpandingMan? But you would have thought that Egosoft would have tested on multiple gfx platforms and configurations for performance of X:R. Hopefully will see this game on sale during the Steam Xmas sale and I will be able to try it with my A10-7850 in dual mode with a AMD R7-250.
Another thought is memory.... maybe memory management is crap so knowing system memory and its speed may tell something as well.
Both on my A10 6800K (AMD) and on my Geforce 730 X rebirth runs decent. Not really good, but considering expandingman's system is way stronger than mine, i find it hard to believe he has way worse performance issues than i do.
I do use generally fast memory, especially in terms of cass latency (which is quite critical if you use apu's). So that might be the hidden catch. Aside from it, egosoft clearly has some performance shit to fix. But if they're being totally dumb idiots, then its no trouble for me to grab my bicycle, be at their office an hour later and tell them straight to their face that they're idiots lol.
Also, in that vid, did you notice the 2.50 patch brings back the old X3 tc/albion styled menu? You can flip that one on instead of the circular menu which is there right now.
Well, you did say you get 15fps. Objectively that is pretty terrible, hard to say what it implies on a low end system. There are definitely no hardware or software issues with my old system, I get perfectly normal performance from dozens of other games, including ones with higher system requirements.
I remember that when the first press came out about it, Egosoft said they were optimized for very old systems, and stupidly assumed everything would be fine on high end machines. Perhaps that's an indication that we shouldn't be too surprised at our disparity.
Regardless, in 10 days when I go home I'm going to build my new system which is very high end (although only 1 gpu). On benchmarks the GTX980 gets about 4 times the performance of the GTX570, so if X Rebirth scales normally I'll get 120fps. Ironically, that's terrible in the grand scheme of things, but I won't have to care, since there is no conceivable need for more than 60fps.

That ^
Anyone know of a release date for this yet?.
They said Dec sometime, if I was them I would make it during the Christmas Steam sale and maybe they will get some holiday cheer 😉
If there is one thing I think from watching all the videos is that I would like them to spruce up the character animations and dialog of the station NPC's

Had a look through the X forum and a few who have been playing the beta of it are suggestion after Christmas.

I think they have done some thing to the character model as they don't look as ugly as they did in earlier version of the game and they seems to have added some more moment animations.
Just remembered that I seen a station announcement mod for the game which puts back the old station announcements, might give it a go as the station could use some more atmosphere.
I wish they would change the music in the bar as it the same where ever you go.
There's also a mod for changing bar music somewhere around 😀
edit: So clearly more people share your frustration with such aesthetic and atmospheric mishaps and abominations (like grandma's in space!)!

Will have another look at the mods as it's one of the small things about this game that really irritates me after a while playing the game. 😆
Here you go Pinback <link> For me Led Zeppelin is alive and well in the X Universe! :girlcrazy:
Nice find Geraldine did not know about that site.
New trailer for Teladi out post DLC.
Looks nice. But I have never had an issue with the X games looking good because they usually do. It will be interesting to see what is in this DLC to patch the main game and what new is added. Because this DLC might get me to buy the game. I don't think they ever answered the question that if you buy X-Rebirth after this DLC comes out will it be included with your purchase or a seperate purchase? I think its up now, but they were giving this away to people that already bought the game.
Anyone know if the modding effort is helping X:R become a much better game?
