Hello,
I'm Shinyclef, I've been a sci-fi fan for ever. I used to be into a whole bunch of sci-fi games but lately I haven't been playing games as much as I used to. Love sci-fi movies and tv shows.
I'm an I.T. consultant in Melbourne, Australia. I've been interested in game development lately so I've been playing around a bit with the Unity game engine. I'd really love to make a sci-fi / space game.
I've been experimenting with putting together a little space environment just mainly to see what I can do, which I'd like to show you. Here's the link:
It is just an environment where I'm playing around with flight control, procedurally generated 2D planets (if you fly far to the North-West you'll eventually get to the planet), and AI targetting (the turrets calculate where you'll be if your speed doesn't change).
I know I love sci-fi and space, and I know I enjoy building games, but I don't have a clear vision for what I want to build. I'm interested in exploration and sandbox type games, and games that encourage creativity. In an ideal world where I could build whatever I can imagine, it would probably involve an online universe filled with solar systems, new planets to colonize and alien races to meet, with trade and colony ships populating civilised sectors, and fighters and battleships waging war in border sectors etc. Perhaps managing a fleet could be interesting too. I love the mass effect universe, love the concept behind the X series games, enjoyed the sense of adventure and exploration of freelancer, and love the creative freedom behind minecraft and other voxel games. I also love the style of Space Pirates and Zombies and an old mac game called Asterax.
The reason I'm here is because 1: There seems to be a lot of space game lovers here. I'm sure there is a wealth of great ideas here. 2: I'm looking for like-minded people, especially someone who could handel the most of the art side of things (models, textures, etc), who I could share such a vision with in partnership. The little tech demo presented above was surprisingly not difficult to make, so things are doable, but I would still scope it to perhaps a 2.5D (2D gameplay, 3D models) style game with pleasing visuals.
I don't have a clear goal in what kind of replies I'm looking for. For now, I'm talent searching, and just looking to brainstorm ideas. I'm also looking to find out if this forum is active and good place to hang out for this kind of thing.
Thank you.
