To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I now have a slow and somewhat unreliable connection because I have nice neighbors. 😀
edit: I fiddled with the antenna and now have a good connection 😀 😀
Here I am in the system with my last name in two places. Again, these are from Scout Plus G22F.

This is Tullohton.

It's a colorful place.

Contiuning on my way to Hoack, I stopped by the Cemigre system to refuel. There are many airless planets illuminated by red stars, and this one at first appears to be unremarkable.

I saw a strange bulge on the horizon and deceided to investigate.

OK, I'm traversing a giant crater and coming up on the other side. So far it makes sense.

Then again, maybe not.

I think that's more than enough for now. Next up, Hoak and a some views of home from far away, then an exploration of Arrakkh's Canyon.
Landing at Burch's Grave. Earth-like but not Earth.
[attachment=3095:Screenshot from 2015-06-05 16:22:05.png]
This is the red sun side. It still looks a lot like Earth, maybe on a smoggy day.
[attachment=3096:Screenshot from 2015-06-05 18:02:41.png]
Here's the yellow sun side. It looks a lot like home. It would be interesting to visit this planet when both of the stars are near to each other in the sky.

Next post: Arrakkh's Canyon, Real or Myth? An in-depth investigation.
Wonderful images guys. I will be spoilt for choice this month but keep em coming in! :girlcrazy: In other news, ModDB PM'ed me, uh oh. :girlimpossible:
I was worried they were going to get mad at me for uploading so many images and builds, but no! It turns out they are wondering why a project as cool as Pioneer isn't on their front page. Apparently they have been automatically archiving all the updates I make (and so burying it in amongst loads of other mods) till now. So they told me to start including images in the news items which I will attempt to do later on for this month. Hopefully that will raise Pioneer's profile a bit over there. Sure hope I don't screw this up! :girlwitch:

That's awesome work! Don't worry about screwing up, you can leave that part to us: Our current version (and a few versions back into May) seem to crash when loading a game on *some* Windows machines. It's a very strange bug, and proving exceptionally difficult to find (the issue number is #3409 if anyone is interested).
@Geraldine so the front page thingy requires you to first write a news report on Pioneer? If so I'd hope we could have a stable and well tested version until then.
Yes impaktor. I usually give a small rundown of any features or fixes as the months go by in the news section. But if there is anything you guys want added, feel free to let me know. I still think most people still grab it from Pioneer's own site but at least ModDB keeps it visible with monthly bumps over there.
Had some technical difficulties with the internet, but it's working now.
I went into orbit of the three planets with names in the Urur system. The first two were unremarkable airless planets with no sign of a canyon. It was interesting to note that the planets, despite being of similar type, had noticeably different terrains. I didn't think they were worth photographing. As I settled into orbit around the third planet I thought, "This must be the place."

I remember seeing a really bad 1980s sci-fi movie where the evil villain, standing behind the pilot of his spaceship and looking at a full view of a planet on his screen, points to it and says, "Set her down in that canyon over there!"

It's difficult to tell in the picture, but that's a large spike looming in front of me.
[attachment=3117:Screenshot from 2015-06-13 14:48:48.png]
I leveled the ship here, almost touching the walls. I thought it best to not try to land.
[attachment=3118:Screenshot from 2015-06-13 15:02:16.png]
The interior reminds me of the famous spiky asteroids of yore. It looks like fluffyfreak took a blowtorch and melted off the spikes on the outside but the spikes in the interior remained intact.

Next post: a few shots from Solia because I like the color effects from the suns, then on to Mian, where I found something rather strange.

You know I've been thinking about those lovely stations or in particular "the green bits". Didn't Gernot create trees, little houses and even roving maintenance bots in and around his mushroom shaped bio domes? I think Vuzz had those in Genesia and damn good they looked too. A mod perchance for Scout Plus Walterar?
I tried putting in a city in those, but even with using the lowest LODs of the current buildings, it reached millions of tris. And the station is quite heavy without them already 😀
I was thinkng the green bits could use a texture, like a seemless forest or agricultural area. Compared to the awesomeness of the rest of the station, they look too sparse.

Fair enough nozmajner, they still look great anyways. :queen:
Thanks. 🙂 There are some stuff I want to do with them in the future, like making bigger ones with bigger docking area using the same parts (as time allows):
Holy F***ing Crap! Those would be awesome! Have you thought about smaller stations also? I'm thinking about an equivalent to the original ELITE station with one or two ports for places out on the frontier.
Yes, I have a couple of ideas, but those will take much more time.

I like this idea Marcel. After all the Microsoft flight sim games have used this very thing in addition to 3D buildings in their scenery for years and it passes muster when flying at 2000 plus feet. Perhaps this could be an option for Pioneer's ring stations until something better presents itself? For example here is a photo of London from space. Using something like this all that would be needed is to light it
I thought the green areas were where all those produce shipments come from. 😉
I've been trying to post some more pictures, but SSC keeps crashing on me. Could be the ISP. Perhaps later.[attachment=3129:Screenshot from 2015-06-14 18:09:35.png]
edit: I don't know how the above picmade it to this post. There were several others that didn't. I got a 404, then my bookmark disappeared! I'm back at home using dial-up on my old XP machine. It's frustrating. I did the post three times with commentary and it disappeared.
Dont worry about it Marcel, I have a ton here to use. Save em for next month! Doing the update now for modDB, will update this post when....um....the update is updated! :girlcrazy:
EDIT: WOW an epic journey required an epic upload. Marcel? Many of your pictures are on deck! As well as those two lovelies from Tichy, many thanks guys! :queen:
Geraldine, I have a correction. I didn't design the Ladybird. It was in the original game, made by tomm I think. I merely textured it. The version I've been using is a conversion to SGM by Gernot. There's nothing in there by me, yet.
Oh bugger, I thought you created this ship Marcel, oh well better get busy! :girlcrazy:
I have a real slow connection right now. Here's another one from Solia. I like the sepia tones in this shot.
[attachment=3140:Screenshot from 2015-06-14 18:19:33.png]
I thought I'd mention that when I arrived at Solia, I found myself in the middle of a cloud of spaceships. They were all over the scanner! I didn't have time to count them because I was immediately fired upon. There was no warning or taunt. I hit the thrusters to get out of there. Two of the ships persued me, a Lanner and a Centurion. I pointed my nose at the star and set speed to a value I'd never attain. The Lanner was too slow to catch up with me, but the Centurion is faster than a Ladybird. People underestimate the Ladybird because it's so "cute". A Ladybird is a preditor. I have mine fully equipped as an exploration ship that can scoop fuel and kick ass. The Centurion had a 2mw rapid fire cannon and was fast and hard to hit, but I got it. Again, no messages and no reward. I don't know what those ships were doing out there, and I don't want to know. I just wanted to get back to Earth for SP23. After fragging the Centurion I set the autopilot for the nearest inhabited planet.
[attachment=3141:Screenshot from 2015-06-14 18:22:56.png]
This place has no surface ports and two space stations. I think it looks rather realistic.
[attachment=3142:Screenshot from 2015-06-14 18:24:35.png]
Some people do not want witnesses. :codemafia: Nothing good were doing there, surely. I advise you to change your registration. If they transmitted data of your ship to their friends, you're in trouble. :notme:
It's now possible to have stations on much lower orbits, thanks to mr555ru. I can see my house! Or the station from the ground if it's low enough. (Although you can't find a LEO station around Earth yet, but I'm on it. They should be possible in generated systems.)
Also a new smaller station reusing the parts of the large ones.
Bennet's World in the Mian system has an ecosystem. As I approached, I saw something that appeared rather odd.

What are those rings?
[attachment=3148:Screenshot from 2015-06-16 21:23:16.png]
I'm approching a spaceport here. WTF is that? I decided to investigate after I landed.
[attachment=3149:Screenshot from 2015-06-16 21:35:34.png]
The spaceport wasn't worth a picture. I'll post the pictures of my investigation of the planet next time.
