To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Looks like 2012 is going to be like 1979 all over again. Go Ridley Scott! 😎 Are you watching Mr Lucas I wonder? 🙄

There is the 3D version of Phantom Menace out next year, mind you have to sit through the prequels before you get to the good two. 🙄

Sorry for necromancing this thread, but seriously, is this the only Prometheus thread on SSC and nobody talked about it after they watched it?

I'm pretty sure most of you saw it. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//sarcastic_blum.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='xD' />

I read many critics that didn't like the movie, personally I found it great. Well, I didn't like Guy Pearce in this movie, I expected him in a different role after seeing this teaser.

Hopefully it won't take too many years until a sequel is made. But maybe it will never happen. :-/

I liked how the movie didn't make everything obvious to you at first and made you think about some things to make sense. I enjoyed it a lot. It definitely caused a lot of talk&controversy on the internet too. Just search for Prometheus vids on youtube.

thats true, it was quite vague and offered many options for speculation. which is fine for me, so I can watch again sometime.

I was waiting for the blu-ray as well to watch it, are their plans for a directors cut?

Not seen any mention of a directors cut and theirs no commentary on the film.

Really enjoyed watching the film but I have to to say it was not quite what I was expecting and it did flag a bit in the middle but otherwise an excellent film. it's not part of the Alien films but it is set in the same universe as Alien with the space jockey being the link between them.

I was wrong there are two commentary on the Bluray disk and I am about half way through Scotts one.

I loved it.. They definitely didn't go with the easy option and rather than being a prequel it wasn't really as if you were watching them all the way through you probably wouldn't want to watch this before the others.

Also doesn't space exploration always result in as many questions as answers. Ok so they are biological weapons of a master race but how exactly are they deployed and there seemed to be a suggestion that they might result in creation as well as destruction?

And immortality is a great motive for a self obsessed oligarch at the end of his life with nothing to loose.

A lot of people didn't like it.

It does take a bit of work from the viewer in order to "get" a lot of things and there are (on purpose imo) many loose ends that never get tied up... at least in this cut.

The directors cut will expand a lot of things (the scene where David speaks to the 'Jockey' in it's own language was cut down a lot I heard).

I would like to see more exposition on David's motivations in general (his apparent malevolence is never fully explained and I don't accept "he's just evil".)

For fans who expected all their questions to be answered I say have patience, you forget who directed this? It took like 80 bazillion cuts of Blade Runner before he was happy with it and we still never got a straight answer on Deckard being a skin job or not... because that's up to YOU to decide.

Prometheus is pretty much the same deal I think.

That's all from a fan perspective though.

From a general scifi perspective, it had ships, alien tech. futurist themes and androids... it was nicely shot and had great direction even if the script sometimes dropped the ball.

I think it was good, it's not gonna change your life or anything, but it's a decent scifi flick.

I have seen all the movies and watching Prometheus was rewarding in that for the most part it filled in the blanks. But for someone that never saw the previous movies (like my kids) they thought the movie was very boring. The action scenes in the trailer that you saw was for the most part the only action scenes. So if you are looking for a Alien 2 experience this is definitely not it. And I found even myself a little bored with the movie, the only saving aspect of it was it helped fill the holes in the previous movies. I would like to see a directors cut some time personally. I would rate the move as a flat B.

But if your a fan of the series it will be a must see just for the story.

IMO action needs to be dosed like a medicine and combined with tension. If there's too much action, then it becomes repetitive, meaningless and tiring to watch unless you're a kid. I, for example, enjoyed Matrix: Reloaded when I was 15. Not so much now.
