To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

This one's looks "hot" I'd say. Also, capital-ship only as it seems. Brought by former Diablo/Torchlight devs.
Now with Rebel Galaxy, you’re in control of an enormous destroyer, bristling with weaponry, firing massive broadside volleys, burning holes in cruisers, and bringing down fighters by the score.
Rebel Galaxy takes place in a massive, randomly generated universe filled with nebulae, junkyards, asteroid belts, and ice fields.
No two star systems will ever look the same. Explore. Discover new trade routes. Scavenge from the hulks of derelicts. Mine. Hunt. Protect the less fortunate, or prey on the unwitting.
On Steam and PS4. Sounds like it is a single player game (which is good by me) and would be nice to know if they are building some sort of campaign or story mode to the game or if it is open-ended?
I think it'll be open world with story. From what it looks you can buy bigger ship and customize it too.
Nice find MV2000 looks like one to keep an eye on http://rebel-galaxy.com/
It's a great trailer that. 😆
Thanks for finding,. Great to stay alive!

Lot of answer from Travis Baldree .
The story behind the two Double Damage Games guys is amazing. Guessing about the used engine ...
small article about the game from Gamesinformer http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/12/07/explore-the-stars-in-double-damage-games-39-rebel-galaxy.aspx
Described as "space combat, trading, exploration, adventure, slightly RPG," by Double Damage Games co-founder and developer Travis Baldree, Rebel Galaxy is one of the games that caught my eye the most at Sony's PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas. Baldree continued his comparison, saying, "if you took Sid Meier's Pirates, Star Control II, and the naval combat of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, and you sew it together with a little bit of Wing Commander: Privateer – that's sort of what this is."
I think the mention of Black Flags naval combat may explains why the games is played on a plane instead of in full 3D.
Very short vid showing nothing.
About time they started showing some more the game.
I just finished assassin creed black flag in this days so i said to me "i'd like to fight this way also with a starship"....eh eh....it seems my prayers have been listened! I think i'll buy it on steam because i don't want to wait for my ps4, probably it's a funny game but a space game played on a plane it's a limit.
When i think "space" i mean no exploration limits. Anyway i had some fun playing space section of Ratchet and clanck a crack in time, the gameplay was on a plane do you remember?
Very short vid showing nothing.
Very informative, indeed!!!
Go bleep yourself! hehe
I think they are trying to be funny like Borderlands with Claptrap 🙂
Good interview with Double Damage Games on OnlySP site http://www.onlysp.com/rebel-galaxy-all-new-details-on-the-space-action-simulator-coming-to-ps4-xbox-one-and-pc-in-2015/
And Rebel Galaxy is a go on the 20 October on GOG and Steam http://rebel-galaxy.com/pc-release-date-announced-october-20th-2015/
eattle, WA) – September 16, 2015 — Independent developer Double Damage Games today announces that Rebel Galaxy is launching on October 20th, 2015 on PC through Steam and GOG. Rebel Galaxy will also launch on PS4, Xbox One, and Mac later in 2015. Rebel Galaxy puts the player in control of a powerful capital spaceship to explore a huge, randomly-generated galaxy spanning multiple star systems.
$20 bargain if it's any good or it may just turn out to like any other Elite clone.
Some gameplay footage from the game with Dev comments.
Why can't you buy the Steam key on GamerGate, at least it's available on GOG.
And rebel Galaxy is out tomorrow the 20 of October, Probably I will buy it on GOG as it looks like the Steam key can't be bought from any where else.
WOA! This game is reviewing well, and it looks freaking awesome. I plan on picking it up tomarrow.
I'm quite enjoying it. Combat kind of turned me off at first, but it's growing on me. I know it's not completely rational, but there's something that irks me about being confined to a plane in any game set in space, it seems like an anathema. I thought it was done very well in Star Trek Online where tactically it was still the naval/Starfleet-Command type of combat on a plane, but you could still move your ship transverse to the plane (I guess to make people like me feel better about it). I'm hoping there's a much larger variety of ships and equipment than I've so far seen in the starting system, but assuming there is, I'll be quite happy.
Im not entirely sure, but I noticed that there are different ships for different factions. I landed at some sort of piratey base, and they had piratical ships. I assume other factions have ships as well.
Didn't think to look at equipment.
I'm loving the game so far, its game design done right. Where SPG2 was boring, grindy, and flat out souless, this game has immersion and soul in spades. The 2d combat wasn't even noticeable for me because you have so many other things to deal with in combat. Flying a capital ship with multiple turrets, subsystems, and broadside firing main cannons that require excellent tactical positioning, is downright FUN. 3D be damned, I'm having more fun in Rebel Galaxy then Elite Dangerous and SPG2 combined.
It also helps that since launch its been patched FOUR times. In what 3 days? The developer is clearly listening to player feedback, and I cannot WAIT to see where this game goes. Good stuff, and highly reccomended.
Being thinking about getting it through GOG but their downloader a bit flaky for downloading anything in the GB size.
Anyone know if the GOG one has been updated yet?.
Anyone know if the GOG one has been updated yet?.
Yes!! It's version 1.03!!!
Yes!! It's version 1.03!!!
It's 1.04 now.
Now 1.041
Got it on Steam as I just discovered them Steam wallets/voucher thing you can buy.
Aye great atmosphere with the space cowboys come Firefly theme it has going and the music adds a hell of lot to it and they have nailed that elusive FreeLancer quality that so many games have tried to get but failed.
Just started playing it and their are a few minor things I'm not liking but otherwise definitely worth picking up.
1 The mouse keyboard control seem a bit off and I get the feeling that the game may work better with a joypad, going to try the 360 one.
2 No shield bar in less I'm missing something here?.
3 would have liked some conformation that the cargo canister had been picked up ie some sort of graphic change or the ships computer saying saying.
4 would like to be able to access the galactic and system maps while docked.
Edit Noticed the shield/amour bar, it's the blue dot's around the scanner which brings up another minor problem for me, that the scanner would have been better on the right hand side.
Right hand side? I disagree, but only because most space sims have it on the left or center. Privateer, Freespace 2, etc. Really just a preference thing.
I agree on the rest of your points, but that is some serious nitpicking we are doing lol! Starpoint Gemini 2 had all of these issues plus innumerable more. (Still a great game.)
You have to realize no game is perfect. Even Freelancer had its share of gripes. (The UI was truly awful mid-flight. I don't know how many times I shot friendlys because I was trying to click that tiny 'wing formation' icon. Don't get me started on the 'lane' system. So obnoxious lol!)
My BIG problems with this game are simply feature wants. As it stands, once you've seen everything in a system, thats it, they are all kinda samey and generic. I think factional warfare would help. Like mount and Blade, with militia fighting pirates to secure a base. Would add to that living feeling. Secondly, we need more ships and weaponry choices. Once you leave that first system, you get access to more, but I'd prefer say beam broadside weapons from the start.
Really though? Its all nitpicking. Rebel Galaxy is OUTSTANDING. Well worth my 20.
About to buy a Scarab with 7(!) turrets. MUAHHAAA
Looking through the Steam forums it seems the developers have no plans to do anything at the moment apart from the console versions, although I would guess it will change if it a big enough seller.
The game does have idiosyncrasies, as I only just found that the game has some game options tucked away in the "Esc" key menu ie changing the turrets AI and whats in the cargo hold.
It's not a game changer by any means as it has all the usual features you would expect in this sort of game and it all goes together well enough but the more I pay it the more I get the feeling that may have been done as quick cash in, but certainly worth the money.
but the more I pay it the more I get the feeling that may have been done as quick cash in,
I'm pretty sure that game took a lot of effort. Not everything is the Witcher 3.
Typo that I meant play not pay, but even it was done as quick game they still have managed to achieve more atmosphere and play ability than some games do.
