To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Second post here so bear with me
I've recently (as of Oct) got back into space games, but I feel something's missing.
Are there any games where I can get up out of the pilots chair and walk around the ship? I've searched but nothing's come up so far
Starquest had that kind of potential, but it falls short in graphics, control/interface, and many other areas.
Although I'm a huge fan of sci-fi games I have to admit (and i'm ashamed) that I haven't played any such game for a long long time. The only game I remember of, that has some sort of "ship-walk" is Mass Effect.
Anyway I'm sure the other guys around here have some better answers 🙂
But Mass Effect is just ship as scenery. I'll admit, I love Sundog simply for the fact you can walk around and interact with the ship.
Sundog--like in atari st sundog, thats a long time ago
StarFight V and VI, Star Trek Online (monthly fee) are some.
The only recent games that let you walk about in the ship are Precursors and Parkan 2, Not much to do in Precursors apart from talk to AZ or store stuff in the locker and I think Parkan much the same.
You can change ship station in Independence War and I think it was Starlancer which let you move around the ship between missions similar to the Wing Commander games.
Sundog still remains the benchmark for this type of gameplay not bad for a game which is over 26 years old, another old game which let move around the ship was Starblade.
I'm downloading Starblade
I got AScII Sector that lets you walk around your ship (but again, limited), but like I said, its limited in what you can do.
Props for Parkan II, if it didn't have Starforce I'd get it (and not the recent type, the older type that without wasting a whole essay on it, puts drivers with root access on your system and kills CD/DVDRW drives and can't easily be removed)
I'm hoping there's something open source/being made, heck I'd contribute art if it is
Not open source but have a look at Irbis Hidden space threads.
Looks good, is it active/in need of help? I wouldn't know WHERE to begin
I'm aware of the (pretty dead) sundog remake, give me that level of ship interaction, a crew, open ended gameplay and I'd happily pay whatever the cost is.
Also I'm thinking of launching a MUSH set in/around space.........just throwing it out there as I know it can be done, I'd need help however.
I know Irbis is working on Hidden Space and he was really after a nice ship experience with interacting with crew and ship systems. So might want to leave some feedback the Hidden Space area.
More fps that spacesim, but you could walk round your ship mid flight.
I don't think it sucked, i liked the game, it was quite entertaining, not impressive but good. But you are right, its more a fps than spacesim and you can only fly small spacecrafts.
Precursors have a really nice ship to walk around but as it was mentioned, there is not much to do and no crew interaction.
I-War 1 and Star Trek Bridge Commander let you board different ship stations, but no free movement on the ship. I think at the moment only rougelike games like Ascii sector feature this.
Think I will have a look at Mace Griffon keep seeing it for the Xbox but not seen a PC copy in years.
I'm not sure but... Shores Of Hazeron?
That's a good review of precursors I would pretty much go along with everything said in it.
