Haha! Almost, it's my little project branch.

I'm actually a huge sci-fi nut and wanted to implement an orbital, which is where the Halo concept came from.

So yes it is, but you can land anywhere you like on it ... also, no Flood 😆

EDIT - I should probably add; at no time do I imagine, nor have we discussed, this Orbital code going into the Pioneer game. At the moment it's just me fooling around seeing what I can do with the planet generation code etc. I do hope that one day I can get everyone to agree to allow the code in and perhaps sneak one away somewhere unfathomably far and hard to reach. That said though, it is just me having a bit of fun 😛

Somehow I could imagine landing on such a beast to be quite a challenge... I mean, the set speed mode probably can't cope with the rotation, only with the orbital speed of the whole structure itself. That means manual velocity matching in a curved frame at what should be a few hundred meters per second at least (thousand? too lazy to do the math...). Ai, the pain! 😕

Not a problem - it can use the same solution that lets you land on the equator of Earth despite its moving at about 900 mph. That's possible because Pioneer switches to a rotating frame of reference when very near to planets.

Now I feel really silly. Of course we have rotating frames on planets! (see what all those nifty autopilots are doing to my hard earned Orbiter skills? Now I even forgett that planets rotate because I don't have to bother about it anyways!)

Dont worry I forgot about that too 🙂 As when I tested this branch it in-fact was near on impossible to land but perhaps it didnt have a rotating frame of reference at the time... Dunno 🙂

😆 not yet, got enough issues to sort out with the orbital, even that baby one consumes too many resources currently 🙂

Thought I would revive this thread because I need screen shots for the ModDB page here http://www.moddb.com...page/2#comments , specifically (at present) Alpha 22 shots. As each alpha comes out, I will endeavour to update it as I go, but I need "grab you by the scruff of the neck" pictures. I know we have a few explorers on here so if you come across something that makes you go WOW or shows off features of a new alpha, stick it on here and it just might end up on ModDB! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

If you include screenshots of things that aren't in the core game, be sure to add some mention of how and from where to get them. Wouldn't want people to be disappointed at seeing something they couldn't have!

Thats a good point Brianetta! 🙂 I will update the news items with things like this, the main page is just for the Alphas 😉 . Unfortunately, many custom ships are either unavailable or not compatible with more recent builds 🙁

Thanks Geraldine! Brianetta's right about them not actually being in the game. They're almost done, though. I have a nice simple collision mesh and was thinking that I just had to clean out the experimental code that's not actually being used when I noticed that I can still remove a lot of unseen polys from the thing. I'll finish it before Elite 4 comes out, I promise! 😆

Nice screenshots, Vuzz! I'm thinking I should add a spot for you in my next hometowns add on. I Googled France 42 and it said Loire. Normally I'd just pick the biggest city and put in Feurs, but Saint-Marcel-de-Félines has a rather nice sound to it. 😉

Vuzz? Can I ask what build of Pioneer you are using? Looking at the Saturn picture seems to indicate an older build unless you changed the seed value for Saturn?
