To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Seeking Space Travel Game

I'm looking for a game that deals mostly with piloting a ship through deep space. I'm not a huge fan of micro-managing economic exchanges, but I'm not completely opposed to it. I would prefer a game that makes it honestly enjoyable to navigate the outer reaches of space, with some side activities along the way. Thank you!

Hi,

Have you tried Pioneer? Its free and you can find some details about the game in our own forum section. The game is mainly about exploring the space with your own goal. It's in alpha state but very playable and has many features. It has also a chalanging newtonian flight model.

A much older deep space exploration sim is Noctis. But the graphics are very outdated and the controls are quite complicated. And unfortunatly there are no side activities beside exploring.

In Starflight 2 and the Uur Quan Masters you are also rewarded for exploring, but these are 2D top down games which are fun but outdated when it comes to graphics or controls.

Most other space sims don't reward deep space exploring and are more centered about story/economy/combat. You can explore the deep space in  Oolite but you will find hardly anything interesting in it, althought it could happen, escpecially with the right mod installed.

Thanks, Grimm. I'll look into those.

I would like a game that makes the universe feel very big, and makes me feel very small. I'd also like a ship with just enough controls that it makes me feel like I'm operating something more than a Banshee from the Halo games, lol, but not so complicated that I have to memorize dozens of keys. Pioneer looks promising, and I'll give updates if anything interesting pops up or I have more questions.

Keep the recommendations coming folks, thanks! 🙂

Pulsar: Lost Colony is in Alpha. It is designed to be a multiplayer coop space sim, but you can play it solo too. Very rough at this stage, but promising.

Limit Theory is not available yet, but looks like it will be exceptional.

Rodina is in early access and looks pretty good too.

What makes Genesia better than Pioneer? What improvements are there?
