To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Yeah the soundtrack is pretty good I have had it for a while. I haven't checked on their site for a little while with all that has been going on here but I hope progress is being made at getting Skyjacker out the door.

It's definitely coming along nicely, they will have some touch up work to do on those explosions because you can see some artifacts.

According the post on the kickstarter for Skyjacker it should be out yesterday the 2nd http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/digitilus/skyjacker-starship-constructor/posts/554745 also has some news about the Mac/linuxy version as well.

We are very thankful to many of you BETA testers for your participation and time you spent with the BETA release of SKYJACKER Starship Constructor. Your comments helped us tremendously in making the final release a much richer user experience. There were few (nineteen) small bugs and issues that you brought to our attention.  We were able to fix them during the BETA testing, which was only possible with your help. There was one specific issue which was brought to our attention, that had to do with freezing frames after launch of the executable under certain conditions. Again, with your help we were able to fix this important issue and make it available for the final release. Our team had also worked very hard during the BETA testing on GUI optimization that allowed to significantly improve the  game flow for regular "non-gaming" computers.

New version of starship Constructor out http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/digitilus/skyjacker-starship-constructor/posts/593874

As you know by now, silence means we're hard at work behind the scenes. It’s time to pull back the curtain: R2 IS DONE! And it’s better for the wait. The download links for R2 will show up within the next couple of hours in a backers-only update - this update is purely so we can discuss with everyone the last few weeks and the weeks to come. The main goals of R2 were to improve on our GUI and to welcome Linux on board, two tasks that turned out to be thoroughly tied together. Random bugfixes and snappy visuals aside, the gameplay has not significantly changed; that's what R3 will do.

TREAT ME LIKE A PIRATE…

Skyjacker is based on the "Abyss Lights" book series written by our project lead, Eugene Zhukov. The player is the lone human in a galaxy of conflict - abducted by aliens, raised by pirates, wanted by privateers and mercenaries alike. You start on the bottom of the Pirate Stock Exchange and work your way up to the top, not by deliveries and fetch-quests, but through brutal missions like assassinations, sabotage, kidnapping, robberies, infiltration and extractions.

GAME FEATURES

  • Bump space hulks and asteroids into collision courses with your enemies and watch the pretty fireworks.

  • Disable and destroy component parts of a ship. Cargo ship's getting away?  Slow it down with some neighborly torpedoes to the engine.

  • Salvage the parts you didn't destroy and mount them on your own ship.  Add insult to injury - rip enemies apart with their own guns!

  • Swap out engine parts to change the behavior of your ship - play it like an arcade game, like a classic space game, or with full inertia and momentum.

  • And all this in professional graphics and gameplay.

The Mission Constructor consists of art assets and design framework that will allow you to create remarkable missions. It includes everything YOU need to implement YOUR mission without writing a single line of code

GAMEPLAY MODES

Players can go through scenario based missions, playing as a single player with AI partners, or with other players in co-op mode.

Furthermore, a session based multiplayer mode provides such types of gameplay as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Last Man Standing.

GAME UNIVERSE

No matter how you choose to play the SKYJACKER universe is in details that unfold around you. There are ten significant alien races, each with unique biological features, social structures, interlocking histories, and star faring technologies - some industrial, some organic, and a few biotech that literally farm their spaceships in deep space.

We've developed a radical set of visual designs that don't rely on classic cubic forms and we've got the talents of composer Krzysztof Wierzynkiewic ("Witcher 2" and "Bulletstorm") to help bring out the colors of space.

Update from skyjacker it also answers the question I was wondering about as I have backed the game through the Digistore, so according to this post my Digistore pledge and the new Kickstarter pledge are added together.

Dear backers,

We’re extremely excited to be underway! Over the last 28 hours we have already seen SKYJACKER attract 153 backers, contributing $6,595 towards the important milestone WE need to achieve together.

This first update is going to be a little long in the tooth. We have some important topics to clarify, specifically:

  • 1.) Backer rewards and their mapping
  • 2.) Press Coverage
  • 3.) Our Plan to Win Together
  • 4.) The SKYJACKER Journey
6bc4437d7238fcb6f010528f4c1e527d_large.j

 BACKER REWARDS AND MAPPING

We want our campaign to be a rewarding experience for everyone - especially our returning backers, those of us who have been with us since the very beginning, through our launch of the DigiStore and our Starship Constructor Kickstarter campaign. We want to acknowledge your loyalty and commitment. For that reason, above and beyond the published tiers, we intend to roll your cumulative pledge up into the most beneficial tier possible. A few examples:

  • 1) You pledged $20 directly through the DigiStore
  • Your original DigiStore tier = Companion ($20)
  • The tier we’re giving you = Smuggler ($25-$30)
  • 2) You pledged $20 directly through the DigiStore, and you pledge $20 through this Kickstarter
  • Your original DigiStore tier = Companion ($20)
  • Your SKYJACKER Space Combat Sim tier = Pirate ($20)
  • The tier we’re giving you = Master Smuggler ($40)
  • 3) You pledged $20 directly through the DigiStore, AND you pledged $40 through the Starship Constructor Kickstarter
  • Your original DigiStore tier = Companion ($20)
  • Your Starship Constructor tier = Settler ($40)
  • The tier we’re giving you = Master Striker ($70-$80)

Our goal is to always GIVE MORE, NEVER LESS, and acknowledge what you’ve done for us. We will publish our entire mapping methodology as soon as it’s presentable. But if you have any immediate questions, concerns, or requests, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly - we’re always here to help 🙂

To our brand new backers: welcome aboard! We’re excited to have you here. You can see we’re focused on building a community and will always take care of you. As space pirates, we hunger for gold and grog; as developers and human beings, we sincerely feel loyalty is the forgotten treasure of our time. Me hearties.

We also received great press coverage in Germany: ( http://indiecrowd.de/zusammen-durch-den-weltraum-skyjacker/  ) Dankeschön, Dermott!

We’ll continue politely but earnestly hounding the press for coverage of the SKYJACKER campaign. Several of you have already given us great suggestions, please keep those good ideas coming!

OUR PLAN TO WIN TOGETHER

There are four major components of our plan:

  • 1) Knock on the doors of virtual and physical space sim communities
  • 2) Give them something to look at
  • 3) Naturally increase our community
  • 4) Cross-promote through other KS campaigns

Knock on all doors:

Our team is constantly reaching out to social media outlets and the big names that cultivate an interest in space, creativity, design, and gaming. We will continue doing so 24 hours a day, and your participation would absolutely amplify our efforts.

Give them something to look at:

We have more than just passion and ideas - we have lots of artistic assets to share, including concept art, renderings, screenshots, videos and music. We’re going to spread these out through updates and press releases and we’d love it if you shared them in your spaces and circles. SKYJACKER is not a finished product so these assets are our strongest method of convincing potential backers to take notice.

Build our community:

This initial burst of funding is what will keep the lights on, but we won’t succeed without a healthy, participating community. We intend to hold votes and polls, release early builds to gather feedback and stress-test systems, and learn from you how SKYJACKER can achieve greatness. We don’t just want your money, we want your involvement!

Cross promotion on Kickstarter:

We’re a big believer in paying it forward. This is what it means to be part of a community: not just for SKYJACKER but for space gaming, international game development, and as one human being to another. We’ve promoted other Kickstarters many times before and will continue doing so with current and future campaigns, sharing mutual interests, helping their folks who haven’t heard about us - and our folks who haven’t heard about them.

6bc4437d7238fcb6f010528f4c1e527d_large.j

THE SKYJACKER JOURNEY

We want to try something different with our Kickstarter. Our goal isn’t just to raise the funds - it’s to take you on a journey. We’re going to tell our history with our updates, taking you from our dream years ago to the reality of the present. Each update will be punctuated with never-before-seen scenes of space combat, star systems, alien races, and the starships meant to fly and fight. By the end, you will all be able to answer the question:

Who is Ael-Skyjacker?

Our hope is that our story will bring us all closer together. We want you to understand our passion and be proud to say:

I AM A BACKER OF SKYJACKER!

So, let the journey BEGIN!

Universum: War Front

This game was done by ... ONE MAN! No jokes! Just in brief: "I’m a guy, who decided to stop just to dream, but to make it real. Being a professional 3D & 2D artist, game designer, programmer, and even music composer, I spent 10 years of my life working for game companies as their Lead Artist, Art Director and project manager. Finally I decided to leave my last job, staying home like a hermit for a while, and focusing on my own game development. The game you see here is a result of my personal day to day hard work over a year, and I pretty sure I can do even more with your help and support.”

Like the idea in this new vid. 😎 😎

Hello friends,

As promised in our previous update, we’d like to set foot on exciting journey called SKYJACKER, a story fourteen millennia in the making. We want to entertain, captivate, excite - let us know what you’re interested in and we’ll be sure to go into greater detail!

SO WHO IS THIS AEL DUDE ANYWAY?

10f879668fc728e014923d726f002c08_large.j

Ael was born in Earth’s ice age, what we’d call the year 12,000 B.C. Like the rest of his tribe, his life was simple and uncomplicated - hunt, gather, survive. His father had vanished and this made him curious, always searching for answers without knowing the questions. He was young and this made him furious, aching to be acknowledged as older and stronger. He was bold and this made him headstrong, demanding the elders’ approval to hunt the most dangerous of prey.

His curiosity led him to scout a new area where he saw something completely new. Something enormous that appeared from the skies and settled on the land. He decided to take a look, just for a short time and quickly come back. Little did he know, that this action will change his life forever.

Each journey has a first step. This was Ael’s - let’s have him tell it his way...

New update, Now on Steam greenlight so go vote for them.

Hello partners,

We hope you had an outstanding weekend! Team SKYJACKER has been busy, powering our warp engines with Steam Greenlight, improving our communications technologies, finishing up an important production milestone, and many more… but before we get to that, our next chapter in SKYJACKER adventure:

CHAPTER 2: WHICH ALIEN RACE ABDUCTED AEL SKYJACKER?

Ael shared his point of view of the SKYJACKER story with us last time (for those of you who missed it, you could see it here) where he explained that he was supposed to have a different life ( and don’t we all? :)). But then, as Ael is pointing out: “I was taken away by THEM”... which leads us into the next step of our adventure:

Who are those aliens who abducted Ael and why?

RAK-TAK-BASHOGEE (a.k.a - RTB)

RTB is an Arthropod alien race, which for us, simple space pirates, they are a race of mean shrimps. According to SKYJACKER alien race wiki, RTB means “Big Swarm of Units” with hive minded organizational structure empowered by lack of individualism and imagination. Each individual unit, or Bashoogee:

45654ad3f567622ae957af8b3969ca1e_large.j

derives reality from the consensus with other Bashoogees through a telepathic link. Such structure has its limitations which is why RTB technology and culture has been advancing slower than other races who inspire advances through individualism. Having said that, when RTB collective wants to get something done, it is really focused on achieving those goals, which typically do get done.

RTB believe that heavy armor and brutal force will always prevail over ingenious technology and clever strategy, which explains their choice in building starships protected by heavy armor surrounded by energy protective shield. This RTB battleship, took Ael away from his home world:

b55347a38513d5f0c2737f17ac346d9d_large.p

The RTB cruiser was headed to Earth to pick up a few samples of animal life, as Earth back then was a planet with no intelligent life species, per RTB’s collective thinking. Ael’s curiosity took over when he was able to avoid RTB guards as the snowy day was way too hot for them to function and they went into a short symbiotic sleep. Ael was able to get onboard and as he started exploring the ship, an urgent cluster order was given to leave the planet immediately. Ael was stack on the RTB cruiser and on a way to an adventure of the lifetime… Which we will continue describing, in our upcoming update!

SKYJACKER on STEAM GREENLIGHT!

We’re excited to announce that SKYJACKER is going to Steam Greenlight!

Big update

Hello space pirates,

We hope you’re doing great and can’t wait to turn into the next chapter of our amazing adventure. The next chapter of Ael’s story will start momentarily. We've been working long hours on making changes to our front page on Kickstarter to give you visuals of each concept, thanks to many of your comments. Please do check it out and let us know your thoughts. Don’t forget to check the entire update for hidden goods from Boss Eugene. ARGHHHH!!! All right, all right… let's get to it...on to the next chapter of our journey.

CHAPTER 3: HOW DID AEL ESCAPE FROM RTB?

As you recall from Ael’s story (it is here for those of you who missed it) he was taken by the alien race Rak-Tak-Bashogee (a.k.a - RTB). Ael was fortunate enough to escape. But wait a minute…. how do you even go about escaping from an alien starship, from an alien being that is technologically superior to you?

Do you believe in destiny, or perhaps a number of coincidences that could produce unpredictable and astounding results when perfectly aligned together? It’s so happened in Ael’s journey, that RTB starship which abducted him got into a nasty space combat similar to this one: {Image of a starship destruction)

ff3afe406b2da390662b8b3d449e2a1a_large.j

d4f610f4138ec2cd7a9dd35403cd2c19_large.j

As a result of the attack, RTB starship was destroyed and the entire RTB crew was killed, while fighting for their lives. Ael was incredibly fortunate to survive while being locked in the space suite floating around the cold Space. He thought it might be the end, as he was looking around for Gods he was promised to meet end of his road by the Shaman of his home tribe. Why did my Gods gave me such a strange way to die? Thought Ael.

e876f04a14685756d31485ac6f3db7ee_large.j

But, the faith had much more in store for Ael. A transient named Varmalon from Balagores (a.k.k BLG) alien race was slowly passing by the space quadrant when his sensor picked up life form floating in the space. Varmalon saw the debris, all that was left from RTB starship and assessing situation, realized there were no useful parts to salvage. However getting a bounty for a life form their home world made Varmalon smirk and head towards the alien. Ael felt something strange was happening as he was beamed aboard the Varmalon's ship. Varmalon opened the space capsule and: "Oh... space Gods!!!, what an ugly beast"... shouted Varmalon quickly closing the hatchet as he looked at Ael. His next thought was "Nobody will pledge any money for this stinking ugly beast of an alien, not even on Kickstarter the spanking new alien crowd funding service launched on a distant space station"…then he saw another survival which showed signs of life. That was an RTB crew member. "Well, now we're talking about nice chunk of money" thought Varmalon as he knoew RTB would pay handsomely for one of their own...

Let’s take a look at the Balagores (BLG) alien race before we open the next chapter in Ael’s journey:

BALAGORES (a.k.a - BLG)

BLG is an Antropodis alien race, or simply space pirates. Balagores are space nomads. With their home destroyed for the reasons that no living Balagore can remember, they degenerated into scavengers. SKYJACKER alien space wiki describes Balagores as pirates and rogues, but that was not necessarily their fault or choice. When the culture of a civilization is lost, when you don’t have a place that you call “eco” or as we pirates sometimes refer our islands in space “home”... when you don’t have a leader who will encourage and unite a civilization, Balagores were destined to become space pirates, just like Ael was destined to become the most ruthless space pirate in the universe.

Will Ael be able to step up as space pirate's leader and unite their civilization in the future? We will only know after Eugene will publish his next book.

Let’s take a look at space pirates Balagores

CHAPTER 4: WHERE DO YOU GO AFTER SUCCESSFUL ESCAPE IN SPACE?

Ael’s story (it's here for those of you who missed it) taught us about his miraculous escape from RTB when Balagore named Varmalon picked Ael up drifting in space and took him together with a RTB survival to the nearest space station where RTB paid handsomely for the returned member of their race.

What about Ael? He was determined to escape again. Anywhere from this strange drifting place filled with aliens treating Ael no better than a stinking beast. Ael ran for his life through the space station and decided to hide in a different starship which belongs to Aazor, a space pirate with experience in association who was on the mission at the same space station.

Aazor failed his mission and was forced to escape from station, being chased by local guardians. He noticed a strange stinking being occupied his starship, while maneuvering under the fire and shooting back at the local guards. Naturally, Aazor wanted to get rid of Ael by slashing him in pieces, but he was interrupted by a bio-plasmoid ranger Valaboom of race of LeeGooyear who was determined to capture Aazor and bring him to justice. Aazor was victorious in the laser gun combat against Valaboom and started to think about the strange being in his vessel. Something inside of Aazor, perhaps space pirate intuition, told him that Ael could be useful alive and might actually become a pirate someday. Little did he know, that he just took the most fearful and ruthless space pirate of the future under his wing…

Our next chapter of the journey will take you through the new adventures of Ael in aliens’ Galaxy, but now let us introduce you to the most dominant alien race in SKYJACKER universe:

RACE REVIEW: YATAGOOSHEE (YTG)

Yatagooshee (YTG):

YTG are reptiles with technology that allows them to re-generate organic-metal alloys with unique abilities to repair and maintain itself.

“Well, that is of course, if space pirates are gonna let those tech marvels repair themselves…. ARGHHHH”

Ok, Boss, I will continue now… YTG is the dominant alien race in SKYJACKER universe with rich history, culture and powerful interstellar star fleet. The built a proprietary network of hyperspace portals that became essential in survival of 66.777% of the SKYJACKER universe. Yatagooshee are constantly monitor each colony in every star system. They are ready to retaliate with brutal military action against anyone who will try to challenge their status quo. YTG are pragmatic by nature which explains why their style of taking actions is very calculated with focus on long term approach. YTG prefer to win with minimal loss and collateral damage, but if you corner them they will not try to run away from a fight.

Here’s how Yatagooshee pilot looks like… ready for battle...YTG pilot Roger that!:

update 6

Hello backers,

First and foremost, we wanted to start with the prelude to the long anticipated Free Flight that our team has been working on tirelessly night and day. We are very close, so hope you will enjoy it:

We were happy to received an invitation to an interview with Brian Rubin, the chief space officer of SpaceGameJunkie.com several days ago. Brian and Jim (Brian’s co-host) asked our own Alexander Landa many interesting questions that ranged from the assassination missions in SKYJACKER to alien races and other games in bustling space game industry. Hope you will enjoy the podcast here

One of our awesome backers, Antonio had an interesting idea which we think would be great to bring to life. It should help us get many eyes from those who love space games and want to become space pirates, but have not heard about SKYJACKER yet. The idea is called:

INTERNATIONAL SPACE PIRATE BROADCASTER

Antonio’s idea is to build a community website which will translate SKYJACKER’s page on Kickstarter in as many languages as our backer’s community knows. We think it’s a brilliant idea that will allow us showing the our strong international community of space pirates on KS!

Here’s the process:

Step 1 - Get the translations done. BTW our definition of languages in an example: German, French, Russian, Chinese as well as all flavors of English - Australian, British, US, Scottish, Irish, South African… so please show up with all your language knowledge!

Step 2 - Publish the translations on the community site. Once all the translations made by backers, they will be published on the community site.

Step 3 - WE will get one of our creative designers to put the beautiful colors of SKYJACKER universe and show our truly united pirate international community.

We hope you will decide to become a proud space pirate broadcaster member, with the following duties:

  • Translate SKYJACKER KS page into a language you know
  • Post the translation into shared google doc
  • Write small section “I’m a backer of SKYJACKER” where in a language of your choice you will explain why. This is the part where you could say how awesome we are 🙂
  • Assist (occasionally) with answering questions from other International backers.

Each international space pirate broadcaster member will get special reward from team SKYJACKER at the end of our Kickstarter campaign.

So what do I do to sign up? ARGHHH>>>? Simply reply in the comments of this update with a language of your choice (or few if you are multilingual). We will send you personal invitation to join this shared project.

NUMBERS

90%

We are doing well on Steam - 90% of the way to top 100 games. Not too shabby for the first 17 days. WE are almost there, thank you for your support. Please vote for us if you haven’t voted already.

563

YOU, our community, the current number of proud backers of SKYJACKER!

2900

This is our goal. To grow our community backers to this magic number. This is the number of backers that we need to succeed on this Kickstarter campaign. We know it is possible, and we've got to get there... but we need your help to destroy the silence...

SILENCE

It seems that we are entering a silent part of the campaign, which is something many campaigns experience on Kickstarter. We’re not just going to accept it, that’s why we are going to show you the best creative content in the industry, completely unconditional, no magic number to hit on our social network, or number of backers. We believe in transparency and that's the reason we are showing you all the progress so you are up-to-date on every step in our journey called SKYJACKER.

Marketing consultants told us this week that we are crazy for just releasing content, as having some specific goals sets the precedence and this specific strategy has been exploited so well by many successful campaigns on Kickstarter. We decided to terminate our short relationship with them. Why? Are we crazy? We believe that transparency and content sharing brought amazing things to life in the World, and our goal is to show the best content to you, our backers...unconditionally.

We do hope that we could bring lots of eyes who will truly be able to enjoy the uniqueness and creativity behind our labor of love - SKYJACKER. You are our ambassadors, and as such WE hope you are going to join us in helping us to destroy the silence and let everyone in the World know - SKYJACKER game is cool, creative, innovative and deserves a look from a potential friend and future member of our community. We’re launching operation Destroy The Silence.

Use SKYJACKER digital ware - avatars, wallpapers below, so that your friends will say "wow, this looks cool, what is it?..." a good conversation starter and who knows...maybe a pick up line...
