To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Fairspace Development Update.

Hi,

Fairspace has taken a wrong turn with development,  Some of the graphics changes that were about to be launched were not worth the effort and I have decided to role back to a previous version.

I Am Removing:-

Bloom shader and post processing effects, Infact anything to do with FBO's are gone.  Personally I think it looks better now.

A new update will be released before the end of the month,  intentions are:-

Half the install size by using procedurally generated textures.

Greatly improved ground base rendering.

Improved planet rendering.

SDL for managing interface to OS ( allowing future Linux launches ).

More Advanced keyboard mapping and Controller support.

better rocket trails.

Regards

Hi,

Development going well, Controller support is in and working.

Lots of tweaks to the rendering system.

Just finishing of the landscape rendering and I should be ready to launch real soon.

Okay, Basic FBO's are being put back in, I'm still leaving out the bloom shader and the super sampling.  I'm much happier with the ground visuals, Unfortunately I think its still 2 weeks away before launch.

Okay, Bloom is back in but done differently.

Landscape and environment rendering is improved.

Fog is much better.

I am now almost ready to launch the  update, I just have to write procedurally generated skyboxes and I'm done.

Hi,

Procedural skyboxes nearly done now, However I am going to redo the User Interface from scratch, I think its letting the side down. I am going to move the radar to the right side, Get rid of the right side panel and add its contents to the left hand side, which will change to a 3d pop on/off ad you switch modes,  Energy /speed/hull and shields are moving back to the bottom of the screen and the enemy ship preview is switching from a flat 2d icon to a 3d spiny ship.   Hopefully this will get people to play for a bit longer and not have them being put of by the UI, Which seems to be the main complaint.
