So I've decided to have a go at old puzzle game I used to play when I was a kid called Mindtrap.
Here it is
The unusual thing about this game is it claims to have 999,999 levels. See where this is going?
Well this is the complicated bit. On level 1 you have one "floor" of dice. In that video there are 2 floors which I swap between. As you complete each puzzle, at certain points a new floor is added. Currently level 128 is the first one to have 5 floors. Which roughly works out about 21 levels before each extra floor is added.
So, assuming that this pattern remains the same level 999,999 should have about 47,619 floors.
But what I want to know is how long it would take to play them all?
Lets say a single-floor level takes on average about 15-25 seconds but these are really easy. As you can see in the vid the two-floor levels take about a minute and a half. For simplicity lets say that each extra floor adds 1 minute. Four-floors take about three and a half minutes.
I'm 33 now. If that pattern continues how old will I be when I complete level 999,999. You may also need to factor in an average time spent each day playing to achieve it.
Good luck <img src=' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//mail1.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
No guesses huh?
Well I did a little working out using the last 100,000 levels. I estimated that each level will prob take about 1 month of constant play. So if I played for 12 hours of each day we'll call it 2 months. Thats 200,000 months for the last 100,000 levels. Which makes it over 16 thousand years just for those last 100,000!
I sure would like to see the game hacked to see if they even programmed an end into it. They would surely know its not completable.
mmh i like those mind-bending puzzles (that means your question and not that game <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
say we got quantum computing available for non-intelligence usage available in 10-15 years, another 5 years to make it affordable, then let the one or other scientific singularity hit the computer shelves - running an emulation this game should be solved by your uploaded persona in roughly less than 200 years <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//slow_en.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
that means if you define "humanly" by a biological unaltered human without any aids - the answer is rather negative.
Ha ha! Good answer.
Looked into this a litlte and came across this http://www.cpc-power.com/index.php?page=detail&onglet=notices&num=1429
Ha!
I wonder how much effort it would be to script a bot to solve the puzzles.
It still wouldn't work. From what I can tell the time and moves limit caps at 999. Which means even a bot can't finish it. I never struggled for time on any level but eventually you would not have enough moves.
My other suspicion is that they didn't "create" any levels at all, and that they are generated from a seed(or whatever you call it).
You could try and work out how the password generator works out your password but if you decided to try level 999,999 it would take months to finish that level.
So its hacking only I'm afraid.
