nah, not very powerful...

gosh, you make for sure some of us feel we work with a abakus.

ok, in running the games it makes a big difference, but to be creative it won't matter, right marcel?

well actually IT hurts sometimes that the MAC i'm working on has only about half of the power of my PC i had, mainly when i work with blender, sometimes it's really hard.

but i've presented this LEGO StarWars spoof, this guy hasn't have got the best machines yet, but the result is great, he only had to wait "days" for rendering.

so it's not a matter of power, it's a matter of creativity, i really love this clip, it's all made so accurate, you should watch his older animations.

then you can see the extreme progress he made from one to the next project.

something slightly different,

i downloaded the NCC-1701A from top of the page fluffyfreak mentioned and have read in the read.me that it has cost him a year (or 4month if continously) of work to complete it!

that is either slow (no it isn't) or he made it really accurate, it has some small leaks (as always) but the degree of detail is fantastic.

oh besides, i could need a little help with that one, i really have problems to open the model with blender, that is either because of my "lame" MAC or because of the blender version he used, or both i guess.

in blender 2.49/2.5x i can't display the textures and if i try to, it hangs.

in blender 2.6 it looks fine but my machine stucks or whatever, at least i can't work proper on it.

now i would appreciate it much if one could do a little job for me and simply open the model with preferably blender 2.6 and would export the model to wavefront .obj (you can export all into one model and use the matlib to, unlike for pioneer) and .png textures or whatever exchangable format.

the rest, as fixing the slightly bad smoothing as well as setting up of the script you can leave to me.

this is the requested model:

http://stblender.iin...eration1701.zip

you will need preferably blender 2.6 to open it proper.

to sad he didn't offered it in a exchangable format, i think it's not very clever to do such and exchange models in blender or max internal formats, it closes other out. that's one reason why .obj or .3ds is so popular, it's easy to exchange, no matter what CAD software you use.

also always choose a ascii format, this allows really everyone to open it and if you encounter problems, because of whatever, you still can work with a text editor on it to fix it.

i allways was annoyed when people offered models in the MAX internal format, really, but it's the same shit if you choose blender internal format.

and no question wavefront IS the best choice to exchange models. i think, except for this leak of missing animations, but i guess i know why it's missing. take directX meshes ".X" as example, if i don't work very attentive and be aware of certain issues which are bound to the pivots, objects alignment and such, then it's anyway impossible to open the model proper. most "homemade" ".X" models show exactly this leak and when opened all animated parts are either centered or splattered over the whole scene, alignment is wrong and the animation is lost anyway (still works, but what use if i.e. a landing gear is "miles" from it's original position(s) and works in wrong direction(s) ). that's of course also bound to the import/export scripts which aren't always "clean", so one script interpretes certain data different as the other script (it's this "shiity" matrix stuff and that it could be it has contradictory meanings, like you would turn a cup of coffee three times overhead and the other interpretes it as turned one and a half times overhead. further there is a declaration(s) on top of the model some scripts read/write this declaration some not, some in a different manner. i can fix such, since i know now where to change a certain matrix or how to add a additional matrix or how to "fix" the declaration, but only in "text" format of course.

but imagine a large model, it can last easy a day until you worked yourself through all the data in a model. so i guess that's the reason why a true exchangable format like wavefront uses no animations, you will have no problems simply.

i mean there are still people who use i.e. wings3d and reach brillant results.

he encourages people on the other hand to: "do something nice with the model".

so listen friend: "choose a exchangable format then, *!@*%!".

anyway, i will give it a try tonight again, maybe it works and if i have to do it 3 or 4 times...

noch was,

i'm not sure, but do you folks know there exists a "StarTrek Phase 2"? this are fanmade new episodes of captain kirks crew...

no professional (or only less) actors, but animation are of course great and the whole thing looks good to me.

check it out on youtube, enter simply "StarTrek Phase 2" (without quotes certainly).

why not link up one? this episode i watched today, it has sometimes lenghts in it, but overall it's good.

[media]

i found them while i was not succeeding in looking for StarTrek's very first Pilot movie ("The Cage"),

shitty "copyright infringments", i cannot really understand why they don't offer this "old crap" legally on the web, i neither would mind about some ads, if i only could watch all episodes and i know a lot of people all around the world feel the same. not everybody lives in the states and can watch StarTrek TOS on CableTV whenever he likes to.

but i know on the other hand they specced them digitally up and like to sell the stuff on DVD, argh...

best in this manner: today we sell you TOS on DVD, tomorrow we sell you TOS remastered on DVD, in future we sell you TOS remastered with the additional scenes (wherefore we left them before away you idiot) on DVD and then we sell the same crap again on blueray.

and if you are a real trekkie, yeah then you will buy all of them from us, bastard.

Now I understand why Swiss banks are preferred. As care money! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//aikido.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

walterar, cool thanks.

first i thought, hey that din't works...

ah, perhaps i have to sign up first let's try...

oh well, works fine!

i haven't opened it yet and it has already getting late, i was watching to many episodes of "ST phase 2".

swiss banks, yeah they will surely take "good care" of your money, damned!

a little episode from real life:

few, no, more then a few years ago, when i was still working for my former boss we had a big problem with the UBS,

it took always 5 up to 10 days until we workers get the money transferred. (a internal transfer most had their account even on UBS, i can't imagines what takes so long, do they have to transfer (transport) the money with donkeys or what?)

imagine what they can do with the money of thousends of workers when they hold it back just for one day, now multiply that shit.

that's a lot of money they made while we was waiting for the hard earned money of a construction worker, hey we have duties, rent, food, children and such.

anyone who reads this will understand that i wasn't amused about that, i rather like to blow them up for this behave.

it has lasted until our boss warned them several times to stop this behave, else he will cancel his business account, which has finally worked out.

i know they do this still, as long as you don't keep them from doing so.

really i'm not allowed to express here in words what i think of them... choose from some very very nasty dirty evil spells.

i mean they sit in a airconditioned room (which i probably have build) and make a lot money with the sweat and blood of us workers, while we can't pay the rent in time?

isn't it enough that we have to carry them on our backs anyway?

"all weapons charged and ready, sir"

-

"fire!"

further do you understand now when i say: "i'm unemployed by choice"?

i'm a real idiot i didn't have placed some "butyric acid bombs" in their air conditions!

it's true i worked in many of their buildings, years ago even in the headquarter of UBS in zürich (zürich = zureich = to rich)

headquarter of ZKB (cantonal bank of zürich)

headquarter of zürich insurance

headquarter of CS (credit suisse)

and...

there is not many big building in zürich where i havn't lend my hand to build it.

well a few ones i'm even proud of, or at least one,

the sports stadium, but that's already all i guess.

ah, well university hospital, that's good to.

the final workplace was headquarter of CS, that was when i decided to quit,

they treatened us with a smoking prohibition and a finement of SFr 100.- if catched.

(in a bareboned building, no furniture neither paint on the walls)

stupid security guards everywhere (only to control, not because there was something someone could possibly steal or such).

employees who looked at me as if i where a underdog, only because my clothes are dirty

and perhaps because i hold my head high when i passed them and dared to look in their eyes (not without my typical smile and a overfriendly "hello sir")

we was not allowed to eat or just to drink a coffe in the same cantina.

are we allowed at least to live on the same planet with them?

somehow i wish not, because then they would have to build the building themself, if they are able to.

i sweared then to myself that whatever might happen i will never only move my little finger for them!

oh, yes what has made me laugh today, i've read in the newspaper that they send exactly such "managers" to the zoo to learn from the chimpanzee how to lead people with respect!

what a joke!

they can stare at chimpanzee as long as they will, but they will never ever learn this!

Gernot, I am amazed at what you tell me. It is, in most respects, the opposite of what happens in my country. The two extremes are bad. My country need to grow. In your country, be a child again. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//unsure.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

"be a child again" yes, that was what a old women told me not to long ago.

what she said was (she works for people, especially young people, who are unemployed like me and live from welfare):

"i encourage all you youngsters to stop from working, enjoy your life and live from welfare, if they are only able to look for their own profit always and dind't think a second about real growth and give all of you a job and a fair income, they havn't deserved it better".

it has surprised me and usually i feel small because i live from welfare, i don't agree to all what she said, but well, this had let me think, "ok maybe it's true, it's not our fault, it's not because we are all lazy bastards, it's because we have enough".

that don't belongs here neither and it will be my last post about this matter, i'm here for Pioneer, a conversion of the NCC-1701 and the Trek mod.

ok, one thing, eagles nest? (position of the former hidden control tower, of airport mollis)

[attachment=1369:01010036.JPG]

yes, i will certainly take a beer today afternoon (but not up there, i don't like to climb up there today), unfortunately with a high chance all alone, but ok, i will think of you and all the rest of folks i know from SSC, pioneer, FE2 & FFE, trekkies, sci-fi addicted, pilots, commanders, flibustier.

Yeah, I could make stuff on my old crappy computer but sometimes I couldn't see how it looked in the game. As an example, I spent a lot of time trying to fix the problem of the pads and elevators' floors being transparent in the forward view near the ship. I tried putting in sub flooring at various distances but when I got a newer machine I found out that the problem only existed on my old video card. Now I see that walterar's specs make my new machine look like poop! I don't care, It works and I like it a lot. I haven't had much time to water my little plant lately, but I'm doing a little bit at a time when I get the chance. Thanks for the kind words guys.

Right here is most of the reason I stay away from this forum. I'm more easily distracted that most people I know, and I've never seen anything travel offtopic quite as quickly as threads seem to around here.

how does it feel to love a PIII?

i never did so, because i'm straight...

a straight furry animal of course!

i know it, friends,

topic is the enterprise refit, it's still in the dry dock, but hey, it takes some time, "i'm not a magician jim".

damned missed it, it's the entereprise from TOS i'm working on, not "refit"...

have refitted today the "Kestral", wating for clearance to launch...

seriously the NCC-1701 will take some time, have started out already thanks to walterar, but she's a beast of a ship.

and like i said CGI models are very hard to convert for a game, it's like you want to make a ferrari out of a beatle, or vice versa.

also i need lot of input to do so, that's why i lurked around on the "phase 2" project, last week.

do i have to set (always) deadlines now? <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//on_the_quiet.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

then expect that she will be finished about next weekend, but don't be surprised...

...and if that didn't gives you a headake... (this is NCC1701A "refit")

[media]

that was a little mistake of mine <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> ...

nonetheless i feel right now the NCC1701A "refit" will be finished much earlier as the TOS enterprise i started out with.

the model is less hard to manage (much cleverer made) and it could be it's finished in a day or two.

strange, it's nearly impossible to distract me (but perhaps i'm steady distracted?), and no wonder i have a calming effect on people with ADHD, if you believe it or not. it's all just a question of your setting, ADHD didn't exists, there exist only people who havn't enough patience to handle it right.

take your time and all will turn out well, never try to force it, not yourself and not your neighbour, keep it all in the flow. if you try to see it from my pov, it really didn't exists (ADHD). but usually the parents are the less patient ones, they won't take their time to get into the flow with the child, so they start to get disgruntled (cool term) and then it's impossible. the main problem is that we weight our longings higher as the longings of the child (or our neighbours longings). like "i have this and that up" and "we have to be finished then..." , though in fact we do the mistake (i miss my daughter and i can't tell you how much she misses me). simply guess why children often love their grandparents so much, they have all the time of the world... both my stepson and my doughter had knew if i say "please give me a hour to rest after work and then i take my time for you" i will make it true. usually i make no big promises, but this is easy to fulfill, once they learned you stay to your word, they will give you your time, but of course after exact a hour they will stand in front of you: "the hour has passed by!". and then do the homework patiently, let them flow, if something comes up to their mind, even something complete different, answer, show them that you understand and know the matter, then "let's go back to work" this works 100%. no nervous wagging with the feet, no "i don't like", everything will be fine. of course this will take longer and needs more patience of you. no one has said you have to concentrate that hard on a matter, and funny, concentration will rise. we parents are the impatient ones, there is no doubt for me. true is, both will feel less exhausted after, like it was a only game. unfortunately even my ex never understood this, always dishes, tv or whatever was more important, but you can do that later, the dishes won't run away and tv or computers neither. we always think our duties are such important, but they aren't. the sun will rise in the east and settle in the west, no matter what we do <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I fear that expert assistance is required, otherwise we will see a new bug (quite annoying by the way) in alpha 26.

walterar, do you think what i think, that it's "natural" in some way?

i mean i see the same "issue" even in alpha25, but i know also that the view angle influences specularity slightly, that is correct.

take a glass cup, now change your view angle, specularity (reflection) will change with the view angle, not only related to how or from which angle the object is lit.

we have, (i don't know, but i felt it wasn't always that strong and would mean somethings wrong with the specularity. it's like we have specularity on matte material but there should be no or less, depending on how low or high i set the materials specularity. really i noticed this since quite a while. i feel somehow matte materials have specularity which they shouldn't have. it's only a "hard angled" specularity) a very hard specularity on matte materials, means this effect weights a lot, or to tell it different is annoying on matte materials, on a high specularity material it will have exact the appearance as i described with the glass cup.

the lighting itself of the object is only bound to the angle it has to the lightsource, the specularity (glossy reflection) is bound also to the view angle,

that is correct on glossy material, because you have a high specularity, but should not to be seen on low specularity.

it's complicated to explain for me, but i know i noticed it since a while and i was dissatisfied with it, but hmm, i don't like to spoil always.

am i right or wrong?

---

waterar, you have all the time of the world <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> i guess i understand what you mean, it's getting to the edge, but i guess exactly this makes the difference.

isn't that funny when you are young you like to reach all in a day but you would have a lot of time. if the time get's tight it isn't that important no more. right or wrong? (could be i'm wrong? i know not everybody feels the same).

little bit of this a little bit of that, i know also when it has gettin' real tight for my father, he had so many things in mind he would have liked to be done before the boat will take him away. nonetheless he was never in a hurry.

Remember this ship?

Do you think there may be a problem of specularity in this case?

@walterar, no this issue is related to the wavefront material library, it's a known old issue and i reported it long ago, personally i never used the matlib anymore (that's quite long ago, we agreed back then simply not to use it anymore) , i thought i fixed the model? also i assumed everybody will know it, but well not yet...

at least i believe i fixed the model and uploaded it to "p66 models one by one", but i'm not sure, i will check it out.

but i have first make sure the alpha23 models still run proper in alpha25, but i think so, i haven't seen any difference yesterday as i tried to work on the "Kestral" (see http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/topic/2877-dave-angel-models-for-pioneer/#entry30502)

i didn't linked it up, because i posted the model to him personally. he should have the chance to snoop into it, i guess it will help him a lot to understand what is needed to get a model from wings3d, blender or whatever into pioneer. better then a lot of words i assume.
