I'd expect this of the likes of EA, not of some hardware manufacturer. What I read there this is done for advertising features, or gathering information similar to facebook (or as they call it in my local region: Fressenbuch, in english Mugbook).
But I see no real reason to use DRM on such a product besides that.
Do note that the EULA also allows them to claim any work as theirs which you make on your computer with photoshop or similar while having that mouse connected.

I guess they are going to take a hit in their profits this coming quarter when they see sales drop-off because of stupid stuff like this.
It seems by that article that the issue is when you install the mouse software, who installs that any way? Its usually not needed and is bloatware, I have yet to buy a Razor of any type just because I really don't see the value. And after reading that I can see why.
Thank goodness i did not buy razer mechanical keyboard 😀
