I am a nerd, gamer, dad, and entrepreneur. My first ever videogame was Space Invaders back in 1980, played on a cocktail table at the hospital social club where my mum worked as a nurse.
My first ever game purchase at the age of 13 was Elite (1984) for my Acorn electron and being dismayed at the lack of joystick support I learned to solder and hacked together a keyboard/and Quickshot joystick setup.
I have been fascinated with Space games and Video Games and game controllers ever since.
I now own a company called GCOM Gaming ( https://gcom.co.uk ) we make a range of game controllers for space sims and other games as well as selling a range of retro arcade machines.
I also owned a company called (GameCAB) no closed which specialised in flight simulator producs.
If anyone here needs help or advice on (space) Flight Simulation, Arcade Machines or just fancies a chat about BBC Micro's and Elite then give me a shout.
I am currently playing Everspace, Elite Dangerous, and Star Wars Squadrons. My favourites space sims of all time is probably Frontier Elite II for which I built an entire cockpit in my mums cellar (yep I am that nerdy) and also around the same time X-wing....
See you around the verse...
Welcome to the forums Snakebyte.
Their a few of us around the station that have a fondness for Frontier, myself included, but not keen on Elite Dangerous.
Welcome to SSC, Snakebyte! I'm an old (and I do mean old) BBC Elite veteran. Ever played Oolite?
Greetings, commander!

Welcome to SSC @snakebyte, there is quite a few gamers here that are from around the same era as you (me included) gaming has changed greatly since those days 😉 nice website btw!
@pinback I know what you mean, I played dnagerous from time to time but feel it was a missed opportunity to create the kind of Elite game that we used to discuss on the EBBS and Alt.fan.Elite back in the day. I really think Frontier could have done a much better job of it tbh.
@cody Yeah a few years back, I did some mods for it also which was fun. I think if they could make a multi-player Oolite that would be awesome.

<nods> You're not wrong!

Yup definitely, frontier took too long to do anything and by the time they did the competition had long surpassed them.
